October 2005 is Children and Youth Month in Hawaii

Welcome to Children and Youth Month in Hawaii.

Cherishing and celebrating our children and youth everyday is so important and we are very proud that Hawaii as a state has designated a specific day and month each year to pay special honor to our children and youth.

Children and Youth Month in Hawaii had its beginnings in 1994 when the Legislature passed the first of two laws. That year, the Legislature passed a law that specified the first Sunday in October as "Children's Day" and the following week as "Children's Week."

In 1997, the Legislature passed another law designating the entire month of October as "Children and Youth Month." We are especially proud because Hawaii is the only state that has done this.

Today's world is getting busier and more complicated. One constant throughout the years has been the importance of nurturing our children - our state's greatest asset.

Please take some quality time and spend it with your children at one of our many events during October.

As the co-chairs of Children and Youth Month, we would like to thank all the sponsors and volunteers who make these events possible each and every year. We would especially like to thank McDonald's Restaurants, Hawaii Children's Trust Fund, Honolulu Star-Bulletin, the City and County of Honolulu, and the State of Hawaii for their tremendous support.
